Women involved in Australia’s rice industry who are undertaking tertiary study are encouraged to consider applying for the 2020 Jan Cathcart Scholarship, which offers financial assistance valued at up to $30,000.
In addition to valuable financial support, scholars benefit from work experience and employment placements with SunRice.
Honouring the memory of long-term SunRice employee Jan Cathcart and her 43 years with the rice industry, the winning recipient will receive up to $10,000 a year in financial assistance for up to three years of tertiary study.
The Scholarship is designed to support women who demonstrate a passion for and commitment to the rice industry and who can contribute to shaping a positive future for our industry.
2016 Jan Cathcart Scholar Millie Mertz, (pictured) who grew up on her family’s rice farm at Moulamein, said the scholarship has played a key role in shaping her career:
“The work opportunities that have arisen due to the scholarship have enabled me to explore numerous areas within the business and ultimately expose me to roles that I may never have considered without such guidance. In these difficult drought conditions and with the water situation, the scholarship helps to shine a light not only on the premium rice that is grown in the Riverina but also the talent that can be found there.”
